President’s Letter — 13 September, 4 p.m.

Dear BHODA members, it was a cool and cloudy day when we gathered to celebrate the season just past and plan for the season ahead. The major accomplishment this past year was the development of a website that is up to date, managed, and allows for membership renewals and contributions to be made online. The site also features wonderful photographs of One Designs under sail — thank you, Don Snyder — as well as featured boats for sale. The site was expertly developed by Eric Hakanson, Jr., for which BHODA is extremely grateful.

BHODA also continued sponsorship of the Regatta, held Wednesday evening races, and worked diligently to get as many One Designs on the water as possible. A highlight of the season was the donation of Mumtaz to the Junior Program, and she is now being raced in the Regatta. Many members sent in responses to the online survey — many positive, and all helpful. Do respond if you have not done so; these thoughts are critical as we plan the future of BHODA. And don’t forget to pay your dues — adding a small donation will be appreciated.

This year the Cochranes graciously offered to host our Annual Meeting at their home on Southport. As always each member brought an appetizer, salad or dessert, and the Board provided main courses. We held our Annual Meeting and voted on the Board members for the upcoming year. Treasurer Don Snyder provided an annual Financial Report, sent separately, and we discussed other business that properly came before the Membership. One discussion was the possible purchase of another One Design for use by the Junior Program; no decision was made, but the Board will pursue the possibility.

The following Board members are retiring, and we thank them for their service over many years: Deanna Clarkson, Debbie Snyder and Sandy Leonard. The continuing Board, with years remaining, is Don Snyder (1), Eric Hakanson (1), Eric Hakanson, Jr. (3), Bill Hunt (2), Scott Blake (1), Eben Wilson (2) and Charlie Cochrane (2). We are planning to add a couple more members — suggestions accepted.

Our gathering this year was small, but we enjoyed a great time recapping the season and floating ideas for next year. My time as president has been encouraging, as we have added some younger members to the Board with good ideas for increasing the number of One Design sailors who take part in competitive as well as fun races. Treasurer’s Report

Treasurer Don Snyder presented the annual Financial Report to the membership, covering the Association’s accounts and the year’s membership and donation income. Members can request a copy from treasurer@bhoda.org.
